Mariëlle Verkerk started to play the saxophone when she was nine years old. At the age of 14 she attended classes with Tom de Vette at the Rotterdam Conservatoire and since 2003 with Leo van Oostrom at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. She took master classes with among others Jorgen Petterson (Sweden) and at the moment she studies law at the University of Leiden.
